Tony Greaves dies

Sadly Tony Greaves, Lord Greaves, died yesterday. Tony was a prominent figure in Liberal and then Liberal Democrat politics both nationally and in East Lancashire. He was a member of the Young Liberals who set out to transform politics in the 60's and 70's. His pamphlet on Community Politics influenced a generation of Liberal activists. One of his significant triumphs was in masterminding the Liberal parliamentary by-election success in Ribble Valley in 1991. He was an active member of the House of Lord, but would have preferred it to be abolished and replaced by a democratically elected chamber, and active on Pendle Council.
He will be sadly missed.
