New Extra Care Housing in Blackburn

Cllr David Foster, Leader of the Lib Dems on Blackburn with Darwen Council, has welcomed the news that the Kingsway Extra Care Housing scheme is set to open next month.

Kingsway will provide housing for over 60 older people in a mixture one and two bedroom apartme nts and bungalows. The housing scheme was developed jointly by the Council's Adult Social Care and Housing Departments while Liberal Democrats ran those portfolios.

The scheme will provide older people with greater choice and will prevent some having to go into residential care. The complex will have a restaurant, well-being centre, multi faith room and a hairdressing salon. In addition it will also house the United Reform Church that was at the old Ragged School that had to be demolished to make way for the houses.
