Darwen Christmas Light Switch On and Christmas Market Christmas Light Switch On and Christmas Market

19 Nov 2021

Blackburn with Darwen Council are hosting a Christmas Light Switch on event on Darwen Market Square on Saturday 20th November. The event is also receiving sponsorship from Darwen Town Council.

This will take place alongside a two day Christmas Market being organised by Crafty Vintage on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st November. The events on both days will start at 11am and will end at 8pm on the Saturday and 4pm on the Sunday. There will be a stage that will be programmed with a range of performances from local dance and music schools, to a professional Christmas Theatre show and a headline act who will switch the lights on and perform afterwards.

The lights will go on at approximately 7:00pm.

As part of the Christmas markets, there will be a selection of street food providers and a small horse trailer bar serving Christmas style drinks - including mulled wine, hot chocolate, gins and festive cocktails. As this is a family event it is not a big bar set up as there are local businesses catering for food and drink around the event.

To support both the lights switch on and the Christmas Market, there will be a road closure of the bus station required from Friday evening to Sunday evening. Overnight security will be in place to secure items left overnight on the square. Portable toilets will be in place for both Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, the stage will be utilised for low key acoustic performances and DJ sets as a back drop for Christmas Market goers.
