Darwen's new state-of-the-art leisure centre opened on Friday 29 January.

This new facility has an 8 lane pool together with a learners' pool. The pool has a movable floor. The complex also includes a sports hall, fitness gym and a cafe. It has special facilities to make it accessible for disabled users.

Commenting at the opening Cllr David Foster said, "This is a result of the campaign mounted by Darwen people and backed by the Liberal Democrats to have a Leisure Centre with a Sports Hall. The plans drawn up by the previous Labour administration would have only been half a centre with no sports hall. It shows that if people use their votes wisely they can change what happens."
