The result of the by-election was announced last night. Labour won the seat with the Liberal democrats second and Conservative trailing behind in 3rd place.

"Councils should monitor and promote the take-up of A and A/S-level Maths, Further Maths and Sciences by young people as one clear and simple way of focussing on raising the competitive knowledge base and mathematical literacy of their area" Liberal Democrat Deputy and Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable will say on a visit to the Oldham Sixth Form College, rated as one of the best Sixth Form Colleges in the country.

Councillor calls for urgent review of Home Care Bill

Liberal Democrat Councillor David Foster, Executive Member for Adult Social Care has joined with colleagues in other authorities asking for an urgent review of the Bill going through parliament at the moment giving free Home Care to those with most critical needs.
